FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

The essentials on how SterlingPay works — for businesses taking payments and people holding a multi-currency wallet. If your question isn't here, our team is glad to help.

Getting started

What is SterlingPay?

SterlingPay is one secure platform with two products: payment infrastructure for businesses, and a personal multi-currency wallet. Both run on a single account, with the same security standard.

Do I need one account or two?

One. The same account gives you access to the business tools, the personal wallet, or both.

How do I open an account?

Start with an application, then complete identity verification (KYC). From there you can integrate and go live, or set up your wallet.

Is SterlingPay for businesses, individuals, or both?

Both. Businesses use the payment infrastructure to accept and route payments; individuals use the wallet to hold and send money in EUR, GBP and USD.

For business

What can I do on the business side?

Card acquiring, smart routing and cascading, recurring billing, B2B wallets and mass payouts, and chargeback protection — all from one account.

Which currencies and countries do you support?

You can accept payments in 150+ currencies across 190+ countries, and settle in the currencies you operate in.

How does smart routing improve approvals?

Smart routing sends each transaction down the path most likely to succeed, and cascading retries declined attempts on an alternative route — so fewer good payments are turned away.

Can I take recurring or subscription payments?

Yes. Recurring billing charges customers on a schedule and retries failed charges automatically.

How does onboarding work?

Four steps: Application, Compliance (KYC), Integration, and Go live.

How do I integrate?

Connect a supported commerce platform or build against our API, and test in sandbox before switching on.

Personal wallet

Which currencies does the wallet hold?

The wallet holds EUR, GBP and USD together in one place.

How do I add money?

Top up your wallet from your card, and your balance is ready to use.

Can I send money to other people?

You can send to other SterlingPay users. Every transfer is screened by machine-learning anti-fraud as it happens.

Why do I need to verify my identity?

Completing identity verification (KYC) once unlocks the full wallet, and keeps the platform safe for everyone on it.

Can the wallet hold other currencies?

The wallet is EUR, GBP and USD. Accepting payments in 150+ currencies is a feature of the business side, not the personal wallet.

Security & compliance

How is my money and data protected?

The platform holds PCI DSS Level 1 compliance — the highest level of payment-card security — and screens transactions with machine-learning anti-fraud.

Is SterlingPay regulated?

SterlingPay is operated by Sterling Path Pay Limited, registered as a Money Services Business with FINTRAC in Canada (MSB N300000200).

What is KYC and why does it matter?

KYC is identity verification. It confirms who's on the platform, which is part of operating as a registered Money Services Business.

How does chargeback protection work?

Chargeback protection works alongside real-time fraud screening to reduce the cost and effort of disputes on the business side.
